Famous twentieth century architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, once said, “Regard it as just as desirable to build a chicken house as to build a cathedral.”
What did he mean? Why would a man who was the designer and master builder of some of America’s most iconic buildings even have a passing thought about chicken coops?
Because anything worth doing is worth doing well.
He was making the point that quality is not limited by the size of the project. Good design does not discriminate. Beauty is always valuable.
This idea is one of the things that shapes what we do. We build beautiful chicken coops because beauty matters.
I’m not saying it’s an absolute necessity. We’ve all had to scrape together some old boards and mangled wire to get something done on time and under budget.
What I am saying is that a beautiful chicken coop can be inspiring. It gives me a peaceful feeling when I go out in the morning to feed and water my chickens. It makes me happy.
Beauty on the homestead inspires us to make other things beautiful, to plow the corn rows a little straighter, to tension the fence a little tighter, and to clean up a little better.
Make something beautiful today.
